Traditional crowns take time to prepare, create and place requiring you to wait a week (or more) in a temporary crown with some pretty specific eating instructions.  Then you have to return to the office to have the new crown fitted and placed.  At times, these crowns, which are fabricated in an offsite lab, do not fit properly when they arrive to the patient due to a bad impression or mistakes by the lab.  This requires you wait even longer for your fixed solution. With same day crown placements, we make your impressions digitally, uploading your exact measurements and needs instantaneously to the computer.  Once the computer has received your digital impression we can immediately begin fabricating your permanent crown right in our office with our CEREC technology. We can deliver your permanent crown right in the same appointment.

The Accuracy of Digital Scans vs. Gooey Impressions

With CEREC technology, you can skip the gooey impressions system of the past!  We use a comfortable oral camera–inserted in your mouth–to capture 3-D digital images of your tooth.  The system’s ability to take fast, accurate in-house digital impressions with advanced laser-scanning technology provides Dr. Bockrath clean, fast, digital scans in just a few minutes through a series of photographic images taken inside your mouth. These precise images are used to digitally design your crown.  After gathering the digital images and impression, the scanned information is electronically sent to our in-house design center where a 3D model of the tooth is created chairside with CEREC technology.  A sophisticated milling machine creates your crown in just minutes from a single piece of porcelain.

With you there, he is able to ensure that the new crown blends with the color of your natural teeth, and that it functions with the strength (and comfort) that you need. CEREC same day crowns technology allows him–not some offsite lab tech–to choose the color, shape, and biting/chewing surface for your permanent restoration.  Since the crown is milled right in our office, immediate changes that are necessary can be made right then.
