Back to School Teeth Whitening for a Bright Smile

Schedule a back to school teeth whitening treatment for a bright smile! Summer is almost over which means that school is right around the corner. Now is a great time to schedule a back to school teeth-whitening and cleaning session to start the year out right. When you feel confident about your smile you share it more. Teeth whitening is one of the most requested services offered by our Broomfield, Colorado, office and one of the most cost-effective ways to improve your smile. When the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry asked people what they’d most like to improve about their smile, the most common response was whiter teeth. The American Association of Orthodontists also found that nearly 90% of patients requested tooth whitening.  Start your school year with a confident, bright smile that is sure to make others smile too.

Dental Cleaning to Prepare for Teeth Whitening

As you head back to school this year, schedule an appointment in our office for a deep cleaning, polishing and teeth whitening treatment to help prepare your smile for the new year.  Teeth whitening can brighten the current shade of your teeth helping you feel and look your best. Before a teeth whitening treatment can occur, the plaque and material that has collected on your teeth is removed through a prophylactic cleaning.  We follow-up this deep cleaning with a dental examination to see if there is any tooth decay, cracks, or gum disease that could create irritation or ineffective results during the teeth whitening procedure.

Which Teeth Whitening Option is for You?

At Mountain Aire Dentistry, we offer you two options for teeth whitening–an in-office options as well as an at-home system that provides whitening power for a slightly longer period of time. Learning about the two different options can help you determine which will work for you.  You can also use in-office whitening treatments and at-home treatments in conjunction for the maximum whitening effect. Our friendly team at Mountain Aire Dentistry can help you decide which method will work for you.  Here is some information to help get you started!

In-Office Whitening

Unlike at-home whitening systems that incorporate low-dose bleaching agents, your in-office whitening is carefully administered under monitored conditions with Dr. Bockrath who will ensure that the amount of bleaching gel you are given is safe, appropriate and doesn’t cause you any pain.  Thicker peroxide gels and the use of desensitizers–like potassium nitrate and fluoride–help prevent gum and tooth sensitivity during the teeth whitening procedure.  We use a gentle hydrogen-peroxide, gel-activated solution that is particularly effective for those with sensitive gums.

Many patients prefer in-office whitening procedures because you will leave with a whiter smile–the differences with one in-office treatment are noticeable.  In just two hours, the discoloration on your teeth can be removed.

At-Home Whitening Kit

The following advantages exist with home-whitening systems:

  • Saves You Money.  At-home whitening is less expensive than in-office whitening
  • Saves You Time.  In-office bleaching is not a permanent solution.  Teeth whitening fades overtime so you will need to repeat whitening treatment. With an at-home kit, you can save yourself a visit to our office and more easily maintain a whiter smile.
  • Provides You Convenience and Portability.  At-home whitening kits have a lower percentage of bleach which gives you the freedom to safely treat your teeth for longer periods of time.  Whiten your smile whenever you feel it needs it from wherever you are!

How do Home Whitening Kits Work?

To prepare your teeth whitening kit, you will be provided custom-fit trays that are created during an office visit just for your mouth. These trays are used with a prescription-grade gel we give you that acts to remove discoloration.  Typically, you are required to wear the whitening trays for 30-60 minutes up to twice a day.  Your kit will give you enough gel for one, two-week treatment per year, plus one-or two-day touch-ups every four to six months.  It is important that you follow the exact instructions given to you with your at-home whitening kit. Failure to do so can harm your tooth enamel or irritate your gum tissue. Over-bleaching can produce a blueish hue or chalky appearance to the teeth.
