Dental Implants: The Benefits They Offer Your Smile

Do you have missing teeth or wear dentures that are uncomfortable for you? Do you want to improve your smile and your quality of life? If so, it may be time for you to talk with a member of our Broomfield dental implant team at Mountain Aire Dentistry. Dental implants are a popular and efficient method for replacing your missing teeth while retaining a natural look. In the United States alone, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry (AAID) reports that 3 million people have dental implants and that number is growing by 500,000 a year. Dental implants represent one of the greatest advances in the dental industry in decades.  They are stronger than natural teeth and when properly taken care of, can last for decades.   Dental implants act like natural teeth–no more removable dentures to have to worry about.  Renew your confidence with a beautiful, healthy smile that dental implants can provide.

The Benefits of Dental Implants

Losing one or more of your teeth changes your smile, diminishes your ability to chew properly, and can impact your diet and nutrition. These challenges that arise from losing your natural teeth are coupled with bone loss that can cause you to lose more teeth and have a healthy, functioning mouth and jaw. But, this doesn’t have to be your fate! The technology and science behind dental implants:

  • Preserves bone. Other options can lead to bone deterioration, inhibiting normal eating, smiling, and natural facial structure
  • Provides a permanent solution. The durability of dental implants means that you can depend on them to function like your natural teeth providing you the ability to eat foods you may have avoided before.
  • Increases confidence.  The natural appearance of dental implants and the natural functionality dispels anxieties that may have existed before the implant.
  • Eliminates the need for dentures. Dentures are inconvenient, uncomfortable, and affect the way you speak.
  • Protects your healthy teeth.  Dental Implants preserve natural tooth tissue by avoiding the need to cut down adjacent teeth for conventional bridgework. reduce the need for subsequent restorative intervention of adjacent teeth. Individual implants also allow easier access between teeth, improving oral hygiene.

Common Questions About Dental Implants

  • Does the body ever reject a dental implant?  The chances of this occurring are extremely low.  According to the AAID, dental implants have a success rate of 98%.  Dr. Bockrath can discuss with you the rate of success that he has had with his dental implants.
  • Does a dental implant look different than my other teeth? No. During your dental implant consultation, Dr. Bockrath will match the color and shape of your teeth to the implant so that once it is placed, you will not be able to detect any difference between it and your natural teeth. The only time a dental implant will show differently than other teeth is on a radiograph (x-ray).
  • How long will my dental implants last? Proper oral hygiene efforts will provide your dental implants the best chance for lasting a lifetime.  Dr. Bockrath will provide guidelines and suggestions to better care for your teeth based on your particular needs, genetic predispositions, history and nutritional habits.
  • When should you get a dental implant? As soon as you lose a tooth you should be contacting Mountain Aire Dentistry to make appointment to discuss your options. The longer you wait, the harder it could be for you to have a successful implant procedure. Over time, the bone wears down and decays, weakening the structure the dental implant has to join.  Some patients may require bone grafts before they can undergo placement of a dental implant.
  • Do I have to take time off after having a dental implant placed? Whether or not you need to take off anytime after your surgery will depend, largely, on your individual experience and the surgery process.  The majority of patients are able to return to work the day after surgery.
  • Will smoking affect how long my dental implants will last? Smoking adversely affects your teeth in a myriad of ways and is particularly damaging to the structures inside your mouth.  Smoking leads to gum recession and disease weakening the implant structure overtime. If you want to look at numbers, dental implants in patients that smoke are four times as likely to fail than in patients who don’t smoke.
